TOPIC: How Ocado Technology Uses Slack to Support Dozens of Developers Every Day

Abstract:
Imagine having to manage support for hundreds of developers using an internal platform. How do you effectively solve issues and prioritize requests? What can be done to reduce the workload on the support team? At Ocado Technology, we faced exactly this challenge. Every day, dozens of requests poured in from our engineering teams, each one important. It became crucial to respond quickly, prioritize appropriately, and ensure efficient communication.

This challenge inspired the idea to create a custom bot, integrated with Slack, which we use daily in our company. Instead of manually processing each request, we focused on automation. The bot not only streamlined the process but also helps set priorities, collects key information from users right when the request is created, and directs the issue to the appropriate team. It also allows us to manage the entire process through Slack.

In this presentation, we’ll show how we approached this challenge, the obstacles we overcame, and how we designed the bot that changed the way we support our internal development teams. And in the process, we’ve gained some extra time for an additional cup of coffee. 🙂
